We must Protect Black Women:
Note from Pastor James Thomas, Pastor of Living Word Community Church
As Shantika Lynch's pastor, I want to extend our heartfelt prayers to the family of the deceased, recognizing the deep tragedy and loss they are experiencing. This situation is undeniably unfortunate for everyone involved, especially for Shantika, a devoted mother and member of our community. As a Black woman, she faces unique challenges in a system that often fails to protect and support individuals in her position.
It is essential to acknowledge that the justice system has failed both families—Shantika's family, who is facing the potential devastation of her absence during this critical time, and the family of the perpetrator, who must now cope with the consequences of his actions. The current situation threatens to disrupt Shantika's life and her ability to provide for her children, particularly during the holiday season when family bonds are so important.
To that end, I am calling upon our community to come together and support Shantika by contributing to her bail fund. It is vital for her to be with her children for Christmas, providing the love and guidance they need, especially after such a traumatic event. Your contributions, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in ensuring that Shantika can return home to her family.
In advocating for justice and understanding, let us approach this situation with compassion for all affected. We must emphasize the need for systemic change to protect Black women and all victims, ensuring that self-defense is understood within the context of violent threats. Together, we can work towards a more just and equitable system that honors the lives and rights of everyone involved.
